ILX CAD AI is an offline-first 2D CAD platform for structural engineers — with a local AI engine that drafts, reviews, cleans, and constrains your drawings. Professional plotting, DXF compatibility, NCS standards, and a perpetual license. No subscription. No cloud.
Most CAD platforms are built for mechanical or architectural workflows and adapted for structural use as an afterthought. ILX CAD AI is different: every layer preset, annotation style, and AI prompt template is oriented around structural details, plan drawings, and engineering documentation.
The AI engine runs locally using a Qwen2.5 language model installed on your machine. That means your drawings never leave your network, the AI works without an internet connection, and you own the tool outright — no recurring subscription eating into project margins.
Drawings are stored in the open .ilxcad format (a ZIP of JSON + assets) with full
revision history and audit trails baked in. Export to DXF for AutoCAD compatibility or to PDF
for sealed deliverables, with correct lineweights and drawing scale preserved.
Describe geometry in plain language — "W12×45 column at grid A-3, 14 ft tall, fixed base" — and the AI generates the linework, dimensions, and annotation. Structural detail templates give it a head start on common conditions.
Automated standards compliance against NCS V6 and ASME Y14.5-2018: layer naming, linetype usage, annotation style, dimension format, and geometry validity — flagged with specific clause references, not generic warnings.
One command removes duplicate entities, normalizes layer assignments, closes near-gaps in outlines, merges collinear segments, and suggests block replacements for repeated geometry — all as a single undoable transaction.
The AI infers missing geometric constraints from existing geometry — parallelism, perpendicularity, coincidence, symmetry — and applies them automatically, leaving the drawing fully constrained and edit-safe.
Drop in a PDF or image underlay with hand-drawn redlines or markup annotations. The AI parses the comments and proposes the corresponding edits to the live drawing geometry for your review and acceptance.
Every AI feature runs on a local Qwen2.5 model (7B–14B, Apache 2.0 license). All AI output is validated before execution and applied as undoable edits — you review, accept, or reject every change.
NCS V6 and ISO layer/linetype profiles pre-configured out of the box. Switch profiles per project; the AI Review engine validates against whichever standard is active.
Read and write DXF for full compatibility with AutoCAD and other CAD platforms. No conversion artifacts, no lost layers.
Export to PDF with correct lineweights, drawing scale, and title block — ready for sealed submission without post-processing.
Pre-built symbol and detail blocks for common structural conditions: bearing plates, anchor bolts, rebar schedules, connection callouts, and more.
Every save is a versioned snapshot inside the .ilxcad file. Roll back to any prior state; the audit trail shows who changed what and when.
Custom minimal constraint solver keeps geometry stable under edits. Move a column grid line and connected framing updates — no broken dimensions.

Yes. ILX CAD AI reads and writes DXF for full round-trip compatibility with AutoCAD, BricsCAD, and other CAD platforms. Layers, blocks, and geometry come through cleanly.
Yes — every AI operation (Draft, Clean, Constrain, Markup) is applied as a single undoable transaction. You review a preview of proposed changes before they're committed, and you can undo the entire operation with one keystroke.
ILX CAD AI uses Qwen2.5 (7B or 14B, Apache 2.0 license) for command planning and natural-language interpretation. The model runs on your local hardware — CPU or GPU. All AI output is validated and sandboxed before execution so a bad suggestion can't corrupt your drawing.
ILX CAD AI handles your drafting and drawing production. Calculation packages from ILX Structures, Connections, and Concrete can be assembled into project deliverables alongside your CAD drawings using ILX PDF.

AI → Review analyzes the entire drawing or a selected region. Results appear in the Review Panel: issues are listed by severity (⚠ Warning / ✗ Error) with a description and reference to a drafting standard (NCS, AISC Detailing Manual, or custom). Click an issue to zoom to the affected entity.
AI → Explain — click any entity or region to get a plain-language explanation in the Explain panel: what it is, what standard it conforms to, and how it functions structurally. Useful for checking your own drawings and for reviewing drawings from consultants.
AI → Clean detects and removes duplicate entities, near-zero-length segments, unclosed polylines, stray points, and overlapping text. Preview changes before applying. Runs without modifying layers or blocks outside the selection set.
AI → Markup adds automatic annotation callouts to selected elements — labels, dimension overrides, code references, and revision clouds — based on the drawing type and layer standards. Review and delete any markup you do not need before saving.
AI → Sandbox opens a freeform chat panel. Type natural-language questions about the current drawing or drafting standards. The AI can also generate LISP / Python code snippets for automating repetitive drafting tasks.
Click any entity to show grips. Click a grip again to enter Move mode; right-click a grip for options (Stretch, Move, Rotate, Scale, Mirror). Hold Shift to select multiple grips.
Select an entity → the right-side Properties panel shows all attributes (layer, color, linetype, lineweight, geometry data). Type new values directly to update. Multiple entities selected: shared properties are shown and editable in bulk.
ALL command (or Ctrl+A): select everything on unfrozen, unlocked layers.ILX CAD AI ships with a structural and civil block library covering AISC bolt and weld symbols, bearing plate details, column base plates, title blocks, north arrows, section cut symbols, and common material hatches.
Blocks → Insert Block (I) — select from the library or from a block defined in the current drawing. Specify insertion point, scale, and rotation. Attributes (e.g. title block fields) are filled in a dialog before insertion.
Select entities → Blocks → Create Block (B). Enter a name, set the base point, and optionally check Delete source entities. The block is available in the current drawing and can be exported to a .ilxd block library file.
A template (.ilxt file) is a pre-configured drawing with page size, title block, units, layer standards, and text styles. Save any drawing as a template via File → Save as Template. File → New Drawing lists all available templates.
ILX CAD AI’s default layer standard follows the NCS (National CAD Standard) for structural drawings. Layer names follow the S-<DISCIPLINE>-<TYPE> convention.
Layers → Layer Manager (LA). Each layer has: Name, Color, Linetype, Lineweight, Visibility (on/off), Freeze, Lock, and Plot (whether this layer prints).
Save and restore complete layer configurations with Layers → Layer States. Useful for creating plan, elevation, and detail views from a single drawing file with different layer visibility sets.
